Wedding planning guide

When should we book our wedding photographer?

Once the date and the shape of the celebration are clear, start the conversation.

Begin with the date and place

Your photographer needs to know when and where the wedding is happening to check availability and travel. A confirmed venue is helpful, but an early conversation is still worthwhile when a few details are being worked out. Be clear about what is confirmed and what may change.

Look at more than the highlights

A strong portrait can make you stop scrolling. A wedding selection helps you understand what happens around it: the preparations, ceremony, family, small details and reception. Look for the way the studio photographs people in different settings and the consistency of the finished work.

Talk about the experience

Ask how the studio approaches portraits and family groups, how much direction to expect and how the team works around the ceremony and reception. Talk about your priorities, including anything that makes you nervous about being photographed. The conversation should make the day feel easier to picture.

Be specific about the team

When booking a studio, confirm the number of photographers and filmmakers, the hours each person is covering and how team assignments work. Do not assume a particular photographer is included simply because their name or work appears on the website. Any individual guarantee belongs in the agreement.

Know when the date is reserved

Availability is not the same as a reservation. Before you consider photography booked, complete the steps confirmed by the studio: review the written scope, sign the agreement and make the agreed booking payment. Keep the confirmation with the rest of your wedding documents, then return to the timeline together as plans take shape.
